I'm happy to announce that my wife and I just found out we're going to have a baby!
Lots of feelings and thoughts are going through my head. Joy (woohoo!), curiosity (boy or girl, what will he or she look like?), scared (I've never really held a baby before…), anxious (we have a lot of stuff to take care of before it's born).
This makes everything I'm doing online that much more important. I want to make sure I'm still able to work from home so I can watch our baby grow up and be there for every special moment, and I want to make sure I am always able to provide for my family too.
Funny story: two weeks before we found out April was pregnant, I had a huge craving for pickles. A HUGE craving. We went to costco and bought an industrial sized jar the craving was so huge. It was kind of weird. I told April that I loved pickles when I was younger, and it was probably because that's all my mom ate when she was pregnant with me.
Two weeks later, we find out April is pregnant. I think there is more to life than we know.
Anyways, I just wanted to share this special moment in my life with you. Now in addition to pictures of my wife and our puppy, you'll eventually see pictures of our baby boy or baby girl! So excited!
DDFD at DivorcedDadFrugalDad.com hit is right on the nose in my last post. Good call!

Congratulations!!! When you said your life will never be the same, you are absolutely correct. When my daughter was born, my father-in-law looked at my wife and said “isn’t this just the coolest pet you’ve ever had?” and that girl has been keeping us on our toes for 9 years now. Enjoy every minute of your future!
Traciatim says
First off, congrats. I hope it all turns out perfectly.
Second, look at every baby product you see from now until birth and think “We don’t need it”.

Congratulations Pat! You’re in for quite a ride! Enjoy every minute of this time in your life!
Traciatim,
I couldn’t agree more! I’ve got 4 kids and with the birth of each one I learned to pack the diaper bag lighter and declutter my house of many baby contraptions that had I used with our the first daughter. The baby industry makes us feel we are inferior parents if we don’t have the lastest and greatest “mother’s little helpers” for our children. Truth is, all that sweet little one is going to need is food, clothing and love and attention from his or her family. There were only 2 things I could not have done without……each child’s special “blankie” and the pacifier. If we had those items within reach, it was all good!!

Congrats!
Now that you’re in the self-employed, I would really love to hear how you plan to handle the terrifying mess of health insurance for momma and baby. I’m struggling with that now…

Congrats Pat! I am curious how you are going to balance the crying baby with working on your other side projects?

Congratulations!
I had not held many babies before I gave birth in November 2008, but the midwife complemented me on my holding style so it obviously comes naturally.

Congratulations Pat!
The birth of my son is the single greatest day of my life. Even 2 1/2 years later, I am constantly thanking God for such a gift and blessing. I am so excited for you and wish you nothing but the best.
Sounds like there could be some baby shopping posts in your future?

Yaaaayyyy!!!! That’s eerie, though, how DDFD nailed it. Y’all are the 2nd PF bloggers I follow that are expecting. Patrick & Mrs. at cashmoneylife.com are very close to THE DAY and he posted all kinds of interesting stuff around June 1 about the ‘stuff’ new parents are expected to acquire for the newest addition. They came to a similar conclusion to bestmommy’s comment about the true needs of babies.
Unsolicited advice 🙂 Go find people who have infants a year & under & practice the hold thing. Try the older ones 1st (can hold head up by self) and work your way down. Or go the opposite way, and get really good instruction from the parents on the head holding thing 1st & work your way up. God bless all the people who let me (taught me) how to hold their babies! I’d still be waiting if I’d waited til I had one of my own to hold.
Best to ya! Best thing is, babies start off simply and progress in complication at about the same rate you are able to handle more.

Wow, thank you all for the wonderful response to the good news! I even got some first timer commenters, that’s awesome. Thank you all – it’s going to be a wild ride. I’m glad to take you along.

Congrats! I’ll tell you – having a child around while you’re trying to work at home is not easy. I have two and they demand a LOT of attention. Don’t let anyone tell you that being a parent will be easy – but with enough patience and love anything is possible!!
Genevieve says
Pat, biggest congrats. I’m so happy for you and April! Can’t wait to hear the updates on your new family member.

Congrats Pat!!! Life is about to change for you in so many ways and this new life is incredible. Enjoy every moment as it goes by so fast.
PS – One word of advise, sleep as much as you can right now because once that baby comes there will be no such thing as sleeping in. : )
Wishing you and your wife a smooth and safe pregnancy.

First of all congratulations to you both.
Your lives will change forever.
Being new parents will be hard work and strange but get a routine sorted quickly and you will be ok, so rewarding. You will put up with sleepless nights, you will become a diaper changing expert, a chef, learn so many new skills and be glad that you can do things.
So congrats again hope everything goes well.

Do you have a name picked out yet?

That is so exciting and the pictures you put up about the now baby boy are funny. I have just started looking through your blog and have found many helpful articles.
It’s nice to know you are trying to connect with all of your followers. Thanks for the pictures and update, I feel like we know you. Parenting is so fun, even if the 1 year old wants to pull out the hair of the 7 year old. Someday they will look back and laugh.

Congrats, hope your baby is healthy and happy! I think I’ll go have a pickle!!!

It was an interesting story. Many families like to have a child, but unfortunately we do not have children and it is uncomfortable
