I leased a Tesla Model X in 2016 (90D) and every part of that experience, from ordering online, to picking up the car and feeling the rush of a fast-moving electric vehicle on the road that would make any passenger smile (plus the Falcon wing doors which reminded me of a Delorean), made me fall in love with Tesla and everything they stand for.
I loved my Model X, and not once did I have any issues with it. Unfortunately, in March of 2019, my 3-year lease ended and I had to give her back to Tesla. I extended the lease for 6 more months, but that was the limit, according to Tesla. Eventually, I had to let her go.
In the meantime, however, I am even more thrilled to soon welcome a new Tesla into the family. A Performance Model Y, coming as soon as they start coming off the line, which should be within the next month or two.
The Model Y has a longer range than my Model X, and it's also faster, too. And, much cheaper. Nearly half the price! Here are the specs, and the price, of my upcoming purchase.

- Long Range All-Wheel Drive Performance
- Pearl White Paint
- Performance Upgrade
- Performance Brakes
- Carbon Fiber Spoiler
- Performance Pedals
- 21’’ Überturbine Wheels
- Black and White Premium Interior
- Five Seat Interior
- Autopilot
- Full Self-Driving Capability
Price: $66,000
I'm definitely all-in on Tesla. I'm also own Tesla Stock and study the company quite intensely. Space X nerd here, too. So yeah, pretty much an Elon fan overall.
I did place a reservation for a Tesla Cybertruck, too. The design has definitely grown on me, and with over 500,000 reservations, I think it has grown for many others, too. It's the most reserved EV (Electric Vehicle) ever, but it'll be interesting to see how many people actually follow-through on their purchase. The $100 is refundable, so I would imagine that a lot of people are in my camp: reserve it just in case, and we'll make a decision later.
I'll keep you updated on the delivery, but my Tesla charger is definitely collecting dust in the garage. I'm excited to get it working again. We do have solar on our house (not Tesla, yet) so it'll be great to go from sun to fun in the Y again.
