Wow, is it really November already? Crazy!
Speaking of crazy, this week is nuts! I'm currently writing to you from my hotel room in Los Angeles, which I'm now calling SPI Headquarters (smartpassiveincomehq?) as I prepare my presentation for Blog World Expo this Friday.
I'm here a bit early with the family because we're doing the touristy thing around LA before the expo begins. The weather is nice and the smog isn't too thick, so we're excited, especially for the little one who is just talking up a storm now and points out everything he sees. It's awesome. π
Now how's this for a coincidence?
A lot of people like the “Hello my name is Pat” name tag I have on the sidebar of my blog, and on my Facebook page too:

In my BWELA presentation promo video, I mention at the end that it'll be really easy to find me around the conference because I'll be walking around wearing this backpack, which I purchased on eBay (and wrote on with a Sharpee pen):

Cool, right?
Now check THIS out…
I'm staying at The Standard hotel in downtown Los Angeles, and I'm not really sure why I'm here when most of the other bloggers and people I know are staying at the Sheraton and other hotels around the area.
But, after checking in, the desk clerk gave me this 10% off coupon for the shops in the hotel:

And not only that, but the placard for each room looks like this:

How crazy is that?!
I guess it was meant to be.
Anyways, as a result of this week my regularly scheduled posts (mainly, my Monthly Income Report) will be delayed a bit, but I promise you it will be worth the wait. I haven't totaled everything yet, but I have a feeling it'll be another record month.
In the mean time, wish me luck, and I hope everyone has a great week!
If you're at Blog World Expo, find me (and my backpack) and come say Hello! Cheers!
Good luck with your speech, Pat…you’re going to KILL it, I’m sure!
That is great. Awesome branding. I may have to start looking on eBay for a backpack like that! Haha.
Go get em Pat! Glad that the family could travel with you.
The only reasonable conclusion is that the Standard Hotel manager gets Smart Passive Income updates.
…Or it’s a coincidence ;).
Anyways, good luck Pat, I’m sure you’ll kill it!
Hahaha, it was meant to be I guess Pat! Good luck at the Expo. I hope it’s a success for you.
One word, KARMA!
Pat,
On a personal note, you have been a tremendous asset for me and I wanted to say thank you! Since BlogWorld LA is your first foray into big time keynoting, here is hoping that this is the launch pad for mega stardom and blog fame & fortune!
Thanks for all you do and “break a leg”.
Good luck with the talk, Pat. Have fun with the fam!
Pat,
That is awesome! Coincidences are fun and that is no exception.
Also, isn’t it great to have a little one who starts talking your ear off? My 3 year old son has been doing that for a while now and he still cracks me and the wife up.
Have a great time out there, wish I could be there.
-Jeremiah
P.S. “Anyways” isn’t a word π
Have fun with the family in LA! That is cool branding at the hotel – you should make them pay you a royalty!
That’s pretty funny! Good luck at the conference!
You wanna know what’s branding? This is branding. Thousands of people can easily identify you with the name tag. Even if you don’t write your name in it.
Good luck! Wish I could be there to see it in person, but I’m sure you’re going to be great π
Hi Pat,
That’s awesome. Your backpack is brilliant. No wonder why you have so many friends π
.. and it’s meant to be, your hotel looks perfect for you. You’re going to have an amazing conference, I’m sure of that. I would have loved to be there and met you in person, hopefully next time.
that is awesome!! Have fun Pat!
Good luck buddy, hope you have a great time and crush the presentation.
It was a funny coincidence. I really like your backpack and it would be “outstanding” in the conference. I am sure that you have great time and make new friends and connection there!
It’s a pretty common sticker but I’m sure your influence had something to do with it. π The fact that they even picked up the red one is amusing.
Good luck with your presentation Pat! Awesome Backpack and apparently great choice of hotel! Wish I could see you at the Expo, but I can’t go. So I’ll say hey from Massachusetts!
“Iβm not really sure why Iβm here when most of the other bloggers and people I know are staying at the Sheraton…”
Because you’re a baller, that’s why! Enjoy the rooftop pool and the amazing view. Check out the Library Bar just around the corner. Wish I was in LA to show you around my old USC Architecture stomping grounds. Good luck!
Wow, that’s pretty amazing Pat. Wonder if Stephanie might have a point? If not, it looks like it was meant to be man. Wish I could be there but alas I’m stuck here in NZ π
that’s a pretty sick backpack! great idea on wearing it though.
Good luck Pat;) say hello to Pat Jr for me;)
As Gary Vaynerchuk says, “You’re gonna crush it!”
Good luck! The bag is really cool. I wish I was there to listen to your speech…
It looks like it’s a sign that things are going to go well for you! We’re looking forward to seeing your presentation on Friday. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great!
Fabulous…
Might have to steal that awesome backpack idea for my next conference, convo starter for sure!
Have a fantastic time…
Coincidence? I think not. =-D
Clearly they knew you were stopping by =-D
That is just awesome! Good luck, Pat!
Our 14 month old son is doing the same thing right now…he wakes up and says “fan!” “bear!” “nose!” “trees!” So cute. Have a great time!
And btw, I’ve been to The Standard quite a bit. If you get a chance to eat in their “truck stop”-ish restaurant, DO IT. It’s divine!
Pat, You are money! Guaranteed to be a hit!
Hello, my name is Sad. Good Karma 4 u Pat!
Pat, i wish you best of success over there, am confident that you will rock em π
Pat,
The pack looks great! It’ll be a hit out there as will your talk. Good luck!
Knock it out of the park, Pat. Know you will.
That’s too funny. Have fun, and I’ll know that you will, as Dan Miller says, knock it out of the park!
I’ve always liked your “I am Pat” side bar. Now it is hard for to to fill out one on those and not want to write “Pat” on it instead of “Andrew.”
You shouldn’t call it a coincidence but rather a case of clever branding and how much research you and your marketing team put into the name tag thing. π
You’ll do great.
Good Luck Pat!
Enjoy the Expo and Los Angeles!
~Allie
GREAT PAT GREAT! HAVE A REAL SWELL TIME, Cheers!
You really don’t need any “luck” Pat, you’re going to blow them away! Can’t wait to see the video of the talk, if you post one like you did the last time. Tell Cliff I said hello (he’s there too, I think). Rich
Funny post. There’s an idea for SPI merchandise – the ‘Hello, My Name Is …’ range of products.
Obviously backpacks are first up and would sell well. Name badges / business card templates could be next. What about hats, or jackets with ‘My name is …’ on the back. You could also do a deal with printers to get the names printed on the back (for an extra cost).
And then you could develop a WordPress plugin that puts the ‘My name is …’ in the sidebar – all we’d need to add is our name and a picture. And you’d finally end up with a WP plugin you’re proud of!
Seriously, have a great time at BWE. Hope your presentation goes well.
That’s too ironic Pat about the nametag thing. Good luck at Blogworld LA. π
Hey Pat – good luck on the speech. Are you going to be able to post it online or does it become property of Blog World Expo?
Good luck Pat, not that you’ll need it.
I know you’ll do well Pat. Can’t wait to see the video. Have fun with your beautiful family!
Wishing you best of luck. And we can’t wait to see your videos and review.
Best of luck pat! We all are patiently waiting for the video.
Hey Pat,
SPI Headquarters….. hmmmm it has a sort of James Bond ring to it! hehe
Good luck for your presentation, I’m sure you will NAIL IT!! π
Like many others on here I am looking forward to seeing you in action, so to speak.
All the very best,
Glenn
Pat i wish you all the best in world blog expo! You will definitely rock there..Finger crossed!
What i donβt understood is in reality how you are not really much more well-preferred than you may be now. You are so intelligent. You realize therefore significantly in the case of this matter, produced me for my part imagine it from so many numerous angles. Its like men and women are not interested except it is one thing to do with Girl gaga! Your individual stuffs nice. Always maintain it up!
Seems you forgot to tell us you bought a hotel.. π
Good luck out there!
Good luck Pat!
Yeah, just pure coincidence :-).
Great to meet you at the party in the p.m.
Wishing you all the best for your talk Pat. I know you will kill it! Can’t wait to read your follow up blog posts when you get back.
I am so bummed to have missed your presentation. I’m planning to go next year, hopefully they’ll have you back as a speaker!
Nice graphics Pat π
Wish you all the good luck.
Goodluck Pat! =)
This is awesome. I would love and really should attend this event next year. Very cool! Thanks for sharing
SPIHQ sounds fun! Hope you had a good time on the conference as well as the holiday with your family.
Good job at the presentation on Friday! It really got me thinking about a few things including:
1. Using the piggy back technique you mentioned for YouTube videos to increase related video views.
2. I was really surprised to see how many new visitors your podcast brings in (I believe you said it was the number 1 new visitor referrer) and it’s definitely something I’m going to look into starting for my own blog.
3. Use standard fonts if I give a presentation.
4. BEI EVERYW (just like your first slide said).
There were tons of other things to take away, but I wanted to keep this brief. By the way, your recovery from the slide (font problems) malfunction was excellent. I think it really reflected well on your preparation and professionalism as a speaker. In fact in my eyes and I’m sure with many of the others in the audience I was much more impressed with how well you handled the problems with the slides as opposed to if everything had gone perfectly.
Hi Pat,
Congratulations on your success with you blog! I am repetitively new to your Blog but I really enjoy so many different things about it. First off all, you writing style is very personable and it shows that you are passionate about what you are doing.
Secondly, the way you have you site designed is commendable and very well thought out in form, function as well aesthetic design.
It makes me happy to see a young guy like yourself have such success with his personal as well as business endeavors. I know I certainly have learned many new things attributed to your blog and I am a very well seasoned and skilled IT Professional. Yes, even the older generation can benesit from the passion and careful execution that you so thoughtfully deploy when writing for people.
Great job Pat and keep up the great work! You impressed me and that is not easy to do. I wish you nothing but success in all of your ventures!
I did receive your reply email to me when I had originally introduced myself to you about 3 weeks back. I appreciate the personal follow up and that fact that you cared enough to make time to do so.
B.T.W ….. If you don’t mind me asking, your tabbed side bar, are you using a Plugin Widget to achieve that or is it hard coded into THESIS through .php & .css?
I have looked with Firebug and I see no reference to a plugin for it so I would be inclined to believe that it is the latter of the 2.
What say you on this question?
I have a Thesis Dev License but I have not gotten around to fiddling around with it much as of yet.
I love your site Pat! Also, I will say it again, by far you have created the most well thought out eBook that I have ever seen! Yes, I think it is that good!
Respectfully,
Campbell
Sorry, did not see that I did not successfully snatch the cache of my Name above!
Thats awesome branding and a very clever backpack. Nice!
Hi Pat,
Your bad ideas is great for people to be able to find out. It is super cool.
I just noticed something though. You talk a lot about branding but I noticed on your website your name badge has much more prominence then your logo. The name badge is very identifiable. Would it be beneficial though to give your logo more prominence as it should be what makes your brand identifiable? Would your branding be more powerful if you combined your logo and the name badge together into your logo? Would this create less competition between the two images and stronger branding? I think you do great branding and I offer my questions because I know I like to get questioned on how I do things so that I can ponder, brainstorm and improve further and I sense you are the same.
Oh boy…spelling error I meant bag not bad. Hopefully you don’t take that and my questions the wrong way. I think you do a great job of branding. I feel like such a dork right now.
Wow what a coincidence lol. Looking forward to that monthly report!
Nice tips. I been noticing lately that social media posts seem to kick ass and get alot of attention lol But I dont want to write all SM post so I mix them in.
INTENTION BABY!!! Feel the power of thinking it and making it HAPPEN!!
Pretty funny stuff Pat. Hope you had a great time in LA. I love the way you write the articles, its really interesting to go through them. Looking forward to your upcoming posts
